Article Review

The article "Motion Capture Animation", by Annie Gray, is about motion capture technology and the actors used for it. The question is whether or not performing for a motion capture can be considered acting. The author argues that, yes, motion capture performances are acting and supports it with some quotes. The general conclusion is that since no movement is added in post-production, just "hair and makeup", it is acting. One weakness of the article is that it doesn't really show anything new and doesn't use much evidence. What evidence there is is pretty convincing. It would apply to me because if I made an animated film with motion capture I would have to pay actors based on what they did and if it is acting then they would probably get paid more. The article also includes a paragraph about a certain animation studio (Giant Studios) and their advanced motion capture technology.
